1. Are there currently any vacancies within Connexions Nottinghamshire?

All vacancies are advertised on the Connexions Nottinghamshire website at www.cnxnotts.co.uk/vacancies/ and in the appropriate local or national publications. If no vacancies are displayed on the website then we do not have any vacancies at the moment. Please check the website again soon.

2. I am interested in becoming a Personal Adviser; can you tell me how to go about it and what opportunities there are in your area?

When recruiting for Personal Advisers (PAs) we will always require applicants to have experience of working with our client group, which is 13-19 year olds. This experience can either be voluntary or paid work. Other criteria specific to each vacancy will be stated on the person specification in the application pack.

3. Do you employ trainee Personal Advisers?

Connexions Nottinghamshire provides on the job training leading to NVQ 4 for Personal Advisers, but does not have a "Trainee PA" job title. All PAs are called "Personal Advisers" from the first day of employment.

4. I understand that there are various careers guidance qualifications eg QCG, NVQ in Guidance. Do I need to complete one of these or any other type of qualifications to become a Personal Adviser?

It is not essential that you complete this type of qualification to become a Personal Adviser. In the past, a number of person specifications for Personal Adviser vacancies have stated that we require applicants to have the intellectual ability to successfully undertake an academic course to NVQ 4 and second year degree standard. When we do require a specific qualification, this is clearly stated on both the advert and person specification.

5. I am currently studying on a university course and I am looking for work experience which involves working with young people, do you have any opportunities available?

We only offer work experience opportunities to students on the QCG course and unfortunately we do not have the capacity to provide work experience outside of this.

6. I am interested in getting some experience working with young people; do you have any voluntary work available?

We do not have any voluntary opportunities available; for all current vacancies please refer to the vacancies page on our website. For voluntary opportunities you could get in touch with local community organisations that may be able to give you further information about voluntary schemes in your area.

7. Completing the online application form

Most vacancies now offer the facility to sumbit an application form online. Just click on the link: "CLICK HERE TO APPLY FOR THIS JOB ONLINE NOW!" You can save your progress as you go along by clicking any of the "Save Progress" buttons. This will generate a unique reference number which you can use to return to the website at any time before the deadline to continue your application. Please check your application form carefully before clicking the "Submit" button. If you have filled in the "E-mail address" section of the form you will receive an email to confirm we have received your application. You will also receive a reminder to complete your form two days after you have saved it.

8. Do you sponsor QCG students?

Message for students studying for the Qualification in Careers Guidance (QCG) at Nottingham Trent University…   

Funding for the 2010 – 2011 academic year is yet to be confirmed. Please direct enquiries to QCG course centres as any sponsorship funding will be allocated via these centres in future.
