The young people on Gedling District Youth Assembly have an agreement with Gedling Borough Council to use of the Civic Centre once a year to hold a conference for young people in the district.
Decisions about the date of the conference, timings, programme of the day workshop content and activities, are all decided by the young people during the Officers working group meetings, after discussion with all young people attending main Youth Assembly meetings. The Assembly members are kept fully informed about the conference whilst organisation takes place.
All letters, invitations and conference paperwork are produced with the agreement of the working group.
Number of places available to delegates is restricted by the venues limitations. Invitations are sent out to schools and youth groups who nominate which young people may attend. Invitations include a request for delegates to choose which workshop and activity they would like to take part in. Information is collated by the GDYA working group, with the youth worker, and a workshop list is compiled.
The conference is chaired by the Chair of GDYA who introduces other members and guests. The Chair also leads on the plenary at the end of the day. Members of the working group *compile and run individual workshops or assist outside workshop facilitators.
(* Members have produced a workshop outline which they have then delivered at the conference.) Other members of the working group may act as guides, directing delegates to the correct workshop rooms, photographer or using video recorder.
They also give a presentation about the Assembly in order to recruit new members
An evaluation sheet of the day is included in the delegates pack and these are collated at the first working group meeting after the conference and results taken to the full District Youth Assembly.
