Cotgrave Forum

  • Summer 2006 small group look to address stereotypes of young people held within the community
  • Group decide to form a youth forum
  • Group meet weekly, formal meetings with agenda
  • Autumn 2006 group expands through word of mouth to include up to 20 young people
  • Town Council supporting group with Chair regularly attending meetings listening to young people’s views, taking issues back to the town council and brining items from town council for discussion

  • At groups request local police inspector attends youth forum to listen to young peoples concerns over their treatment at the hands of police. Group concerned police targeting all young people not those causing problems within the community
  • Three teams from forum take part in Rushcliffe annual community quiz, the first time young people have attended. Young people enjoy themselves. E-mailed and anecdotal messages come in complimenting the group on their behaviour and their enthusiasm and thanking them for attending
  • Forum consulted on provision at new extended school facility. Group elect representatives to link with school
  • Forum elect representative group to attend full town council meetings
  • Forum elect representative group to attend full parks committee of town council
  • Forum elect representative group to attend Rushcliffe Youth Assembly
  • Group from forum volunteer to work a day at the local RSPCA centre
  • Group volunteer to take part in YIG training
  • Forum complete application to Youth Initiative Grant to run a celebration day aimed at addressing stereotypes, celebrating young peoples achievement, showcasing young peoples talents
  • Group attending town council parks committee campaign to have goal posts moved back on one local park to prevent issues arising, town council agree to move and agree to consult group on all future changes.
  • Core group of 12 young people gain D of E access award, now looking to complete the Bronze award
  • Year on new members attending
  • Monthly visits and trips planned
  • Group leading on new youth service provision in Cotgrave
  • Members volunteer for youth service young people inspector training
  • Forum consulted on redevelopment of garages in Cotgrave, their views publicised along with town council wishes
  • Forum take part in week of action linking with Police and Borough Council to highlight issues for young people in Cotgrave
