Recent 14-19 reforms mean that young people face increasingly complex and significant career-related decisions at an earlier age.Schools and colleges will need to ensure that they offer high quality careers education, and information advice and guidance (IAG) to help their students make the right choices. Connexions Nottinghamshire has produced Best Practice in Careers Education and Guidance (CEG) to support schools and colleges in developing their provision. The Best Practice guide identifies the key components of a quality CEG programme and then provides practical suggestions and examples for developing this aspect of provision. Areas covered include ideas for policy and programme content, and methods of assessing, accrediting and evaluating CEG including its impact on student motivation, achievement and progression. For each section there is an indication of what constitutes both minimum and enhanced standards, and links made to the relevant Ofsted statement or question. The guide was commissioned by a number of Area Strategy Groups in Nottinghamshire whose membership includes all Heads and Principals. The guide will go out to all schools and colleges by February half term and can also be downloaded by clicking on the link below. It will be distributed via link PAs. Separate copies will be sent to Heads and Principals. Staff will have the chance to win a £50 voucher in a prize draw by answering 5 questions about the content of the guide and returning their answers on a game card to their PA or by posting to a freepost address. Posters about the competition and the game cards will be distributed by PAs at the same time as the guide. If you would like further help and support in developing your CEG programme then please contact Alison Skellern, Curriculum Development Manager on 01623 821550 or email at alison.skellern@cnxnotts.co.uk Download Best Practice in Careers Education and Guidance (PDF 444KB) |
