Career Mark 5, is an award which recognises quality Careers Education and Guidance. It is awarded on the achievement of a set of rigorous standards, which have been developed by schools, colleges, Connexions Services and LEAs across the East Midlands.

The Award Process in brief
To achieve a Career Mark Award schools and colleges must provide evidence that they have met the criteria within 5 standards:
- Management ensures that the planning and management systems for CEIAG are coherent and effective.
- The Curriculum ensures that the career(s) curriculum is well balanced and supports young people’s personal development.
- Information ensures access to appropriate and relevant information and information handling skills.
- Guidance ensures access to a planned programme of advice guidance and support.
- Outcomes evaluates the effectiveness of the CEIAG provision and whether young people have the knowledge skills and attitudes to be competent careers planners.
Support will be available to schools and colleges working towards the Career Mark Award.
Assessment will be via a portfolio of evidence and interviews with an external assessor.
A guide to the process steps:
- The school/college commits to work towards Career Mark.
- Initial audit and action plan to meet standards and criteria.
- Initial planning meeting(s) in school/college with Career Mark Adviser and staff to clarify action plan.
- Implement action plan gather evidence of achievements.
- Prepare a portfolio of evidence for assessment.
- Portfolio checked by Career Mark Adviser.
- Assessment of portfolio and on-site interviews with staff and students.
- Report by Assessor to external verifier.
- Career Mark awarded action agreed for 3 year development with Career Mark Advisers.
