The New Charity Created to Engage and Inspire a Million more Young Volunteers Aged 16-25
v was launched on Monday 8th May in London, and will be of interest to all those involved with youth participation and engagement.
v is youth led, and is guided by a 20 strong youth advisory board, v20, four of whom sit on the charity’s Board of Trustees. Building on existing infrastructure v will fund organisations across England to deliver thousands of new volunteering opportunities to young people.
Chief Executive Terry Ryall said, “We recognise the excellent work that colleagues in Connexions, Millennium Volunteers and across youth services already do to enable young people to gain valuable skills, experience and confidence through volunteering. A million more young volunteers is a big challenge but we’re vconfident that we can achieve it together”.
v is independent of Government and is central to the framework proposed by the Russell Commission which promised a step change in the diversity, quantity and quality of young people’s volunteering.
As part of the new framework, the administration of Millennium Volunteers will transfer to v in April 2007. Discussions are currently taking place with the new charity to manage this process smoothly.
