Results advice for your son or daughter!

Although the Summer holidays are now in full swing, August is an anxious time for many young people as they await exam results – particularly GCSEs and A-levels.

And with A-level results out on Thursday 16th August and GCSEs on Thursday 23rd August, Connexions Nottinghamshire is on-hand to offer impartial advice and guidance for that next important step.

Go to Results Advice on SortItOnline.com, our website for young people, 13-19.

Read on for more about our support…

Connexions Nottinghamshire is the support service for all 13-19 year olds in the city and county. Connexions Personal Advisers, PAs, can help young people by discussing the different options available to them in light of their exam results. Connexions Nottinghamshire can also help with advice on job vacancies, college and university issues, grants and benefits.

If your son or daughter finds that they haven't got the grades needed to take up a college or university place, don't worry. There are loads of options to consider, including the world of work, apprenticeships, taking a gap year, volunteering or the University clearing system.

Connexions Nottinghamshire is also launching a brand new website this month - www.MyChoiceNotts.com - to help school leavers with their post exam decisions. Available on the site is a brand new exclusive podcast – an interview with Hollyoaks actress, Nathalie Emmanuel, who plays Sasha Valentine, giving advice for school leavers and the career path she has taken.

www.MyChoiceNotts.com provides school leavers with many of the post-16 options available to them in Nottinghamshire, whether they're college courses, apprenticeships or jobs. It even has a new 'FE Clearing' section, which lists the Further Education courses available in Nottinghamshire.

Connexions Personal Adviser, Rebecca Smith, says: "When faced with the reality of your exam results, please don't panic. Whatever grades you've got, whether they're better or worse than you expected, you still have a wide choice of things to do, and there is no reason why you can't still go on to pursue your chosen career.

"If you are concerned, it can help to talk through your choices with someone who has some experience of the system and who can offer you sound advice - a teacher, parent, older brother or sister, or a Connexions Personal Adviser for example."
