The BME team held a Black History Month celebration event last Thursday 24th October. Partners and young people were invited to attend. The event was a resounding success and Connexions Carlton Street conference had never looked better.
People had the opportunity to meet the team, enjoy a display of black role models from throughout the ages and sample some African Caribbean cuisine. Visitors were also invited to a screening of 500 years later, a film by Owen Aik Shahadah.
Guests were invited to complete a quiz, in which they had to correctly identify pictures of black role models. The winner was Moby Farrands from New Deal for Communities in Hyson Green and Radford. Moby has decided to donate her prize of an MP3 player to a young person who is a trainee at Kemet radio station. This is a radio station based in the New Deal for Communities area for the African Caribbean community.
