Making the Connexion

A small grant scheme for the Voluntary and Community sector

The Board and Executive of Connexions Nottinghamshire have recognised unreservedly, from even before Connexions Nottinghamshire came into being on the 1st April 2002, that the local Voluntary and Community sector could play an important role in helping Connexions to meet its objectives of assisting all young people to reach their full potential and make a successful transition into adult life.

As just one indication of this the Board has set aside £400,000 in 2002/03, with similar sums in future years, for the sector to bid for to support projects which engage and/or provide services for young people aged 13-19. These projects/services are specifically for young people currently outside or at risk of becoming outside of structural leaming, training or employment and who are not already in regular contact with the mainstream Connexions Service.

'Making the Connexion' was launched to over 160 people from the Voluntary and Community sectors on the 20th September 2002, at an event organised by the Nottinghamshire Community Foundation at Newstead Miners Welfare. This followed a mail shot to over 2000 Voluntary and Community sector organisations plus a number of other information events.

The closing date for this 1st round of bids was the 15th October 2002. Bidding organisations will be expected to hear the results in early November 2002.
