Young people have the right to:
- Access the Connexions Service where it fits into their lifestyle as and when needed.
- Expect that all boundaries of confidentiality will be explained.
- Access any personal data about them and choose who else has access to this data.
- Information which is provided in young person friendly words.
- Choose a male or female personal adviser and change their personal adviser without giving a reason.
- Choose to bring someone with them for support if they wish.
- Expect an equal standard of quality of service across Nottinghamshire.
- Make confidential comments, suggestions and complaints, and for these to be taken seriously and acted upon.
- Expect their Personal Adviser to offer friendly, non-judgmental and reliable information, advice, guidance and support about careers and other issues to help them make decisions.
- Make their own informed choices and decisions.
- Remain at the heart of the service regardless of Connexions targets, e.g. truancy rates, crime rates.
- Be involved in the recruitment and selection of Personal Advisers.
- Be involved and listened to in decisions made about the planning, design, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of the Connexions Service.
- Have their views respected and taken seriously.
- Be shown the same level of respect and quality of service despite their age, social class, gender, race, religion, disability or sexual orientation.
Young people have produced the above Youth Charter over the past 3 months, through wide consultation. This is still a draft, however, and further comments and thoughts are welcome before a polished version is produced in April 2002. Any comments can either be sent to David McWilliams at Retford Youth Centre, Ordsall School or via www.nottssoapbox.co.uk. Alternatively, note your thoughts down and drop them in to any GuideLine Careers Centre.
