Languages Work

CILT, the National Centre for Languages has launched brand new materials called 'Languages Work', designed for use across the curriculum.

They are ideal for use by languages teachers and other subject teachers and Personal Advisers. As well as providing extensive careers guidance for language learners, the materials tackle key areas such as PSHE, Citizenship and use of ICT.

Three key messages underpin the campaign:

  • English is not enough

  • A little language learning can make a lot of difference

  • Languages can improve the quality of your life

The product range includes promotional posters and postcards, careers information and lesson plans and materials for use by languages teachers, guidance teachers, Connexions Personal Advisers and others. The range includes:

  • Handbook for Languages and Careers – aimed at intermediaries such as careers advisers, this is an essential guide to language learning pathways, use of languages in different industries, and to finding work using languages. It includes 26 case studies of people using languages in their work, and extensive signposting to key organisations, initiatives and websites.
  • Activity folder for schools – containing curriculum and promotional materials, for use by a range of language and careers guidance professionals. Resources are based on the CEG Framework 2003.
  • Introducing Languages Work CD-ROM – including video clips and materials from the Languages Work range for easy reproduction.
  • Website – with pathways for learners of all ages.

Other materials, including careers fact sheets for younger and older students and promotional posters and postcards, are available to order free of charge.

You can order these and other materials from www.languageswork.org.uk (go to the ‘Contact us’ section) or contact: info@languageswork.org.uk .
